Sewer line repair is something that most homeowners don’t think about until its absolutely necessary, which is usually a pretty stressful time. The failure of the sewer system itself, the prospect of having to pay to replace it, and the worry of finding the right method and company for replacement can all amount to a really tough and confusing situation. Since there are a few different ways to get sewer lines replaced, here’s when you should opt for pipe bursting, which is a method of trenchless sewer replacement.
1. If there are structures above the sewer line.
If you have structures in your yard that sit over sewer lines, pipe bursting is probably the only way you’re going to be able to get sewer line repair without disturbing the structure. Since pipe bursting is trenchless, the lines don’t need to be dug up and any structures like sheds or above-ground pools would be undisturbed during the process.
2. When you need bigger sewer lines.
Another situation in which the pipe bursting method would be best is if you need bigger pipes that have a larger diameter. Trenchless pipe repair basically works like this: an expander head is pulled by a hydraulic machine through an already existing pipe. The new pipe, which can be larger that the old one since the expander head clears a larger space, is laid on the place of the old pipe.
3. If you don’t want to disturb your lawn.
Even if you don’t need bigger pipes or have any standing structures in your yard, pipe bursting is still a worthwhile option for people who don’t want to disturb their lawns. The traditional method of sewer line replacement means digging a large trench the length and depth of the pipe, which means that not only is there a large trench in your yard, but there’s also quite a bit of diplaced dirt.
