Your roof has been through a lot. It’s made with one of the most durable roofing materials types around, and has weathered hail, fallen branches, and a myriad of other challenges. Now, it’s starting to look it’s age, but do you really need to start thinking about a roof replacement?
If you’re not sure, look for these signs.
Your Roof Is Getting Old.
You may need to find a roofer if your current roof is getting on in years. Most roofing repair contractors agree that a typical roof has a life expectancy of between 20 to 25 years. If your roof is this old — or even older, you may need a roofer. Also, check for shingle granules in your gutters, since shingles will lose more and more granules towards the end of their life cycle.
Your Shingles Are in Poor Condition.
If your shingles are curled, buckled, or missing, you probably need a roofer, as this is a clear indicator that the roof is nearing the end of its life expectancy. Check the valleys of your roof, too. This is one of the most important spots on your roof since it’s where snow and rain collect. If the shingles are missing there, then you definitely need a roofer, as the integrity of your roof has been compromised, and could spring leaks soon.
Check Your Chimney Flashing.
If you think you need a roofer, then you should be concerned with your chimney flashing, especially if it consists of roof cement or tar. If so, then it will likely need to be replaced with a more long term, water tight fitting.
