Laminate flooring, quality carpet, tile choices.
The process of building or remodeling a home can seem overwhelming. With the hundreds of options that are available just in laminate flooring, for instance, home owners can easily become confused and concerned about the decisions that they have to make.
Because there are so many choices, many home owners find that they really need to do some research and set some boundaries before they ever walk into a show room. Understanding your price limitations, the maintenance you are willing to expend, and the color scheme are three guidelines that can help you limit your decision making.
Price. Your budget is always a very important part of any selection that you will make. It does not make sense, for instance, to walk into a sample area and just start picking out your favorite laminate flooring or vinyl flooring samples without thinking about how much you want to spend. It will not do you any good to fall in love with a product that is completely out of your price range. It is interesting to note that vinyl, one of the most affordable flooring options continues to be a popular choice for many home owners. In fact, although it was invented over 80 years ago, vinyl flooring is still one of the most resilient flooring materials available today.
Maintenance. In addition to paying close attention to your budget when you are making flooring choices, it is important that you also understand the maintenance that is required with the selection that you make. For instance, even though 90% of homeowners prefer hardwood or tile flooring in the kitchen, these two products require special attention. In addition, both hardwood and tile may be more likely to show damages like scratches, dents, and, in the case of wood, wear in high traffic areas. In spite of the extra maintenance that may be required, 54% of home buyers were willing to pay more for a home with hardwood flooring, according to the National Association of Realtors.
Color. Most home owners have a very specific look that they are going for when they are making flooring choices. From laundry rooms to master baths to family rooms, it is important to make sure that you find the kind of color that you want to match wall paint, furniture, and other parts of the room. And while color may not seem as important as price and maintenance, it is what most people will notice when they walk into a space.
Instead of letting yourself be overwhelmed by the flooring choices that you need to make for an upcoming project, make sure that you start by paying attention to some specific factors when you begin your search.
