4 Reasons to Drink Filtered Water Instead of Bottled Water

Well water filtration systems are provide a number of benefits. They’re healthier, providing safer drinking water than bottled water. They’re cost-efficient, eliminating the need to spend copious amounts of money on bottled water.

And most importantly, well water filter systems are highly sustainable. Here’s what you should know.

The amount of oil needed to support the bottled water industry could power an army of vehicles for a year.

Each year, 53 billion gallons of bottled water are consumed around the world. In order to produce that much water, bottled water suppliers use 17 million barrels of oil. That’s enough oil to fuel 1 million cars for one. (Or it’s enough to fuel one car for 1 million years.)

Producing bottled water uses up more water than actually goes into the bottle.

Believe it or not, more water is consumed in the production of bottled water than actually goes into the bottles. In fact, it actually takes about three times as much water to produce one bottle than it takes to actually fill said bottle.

The overwhelming majority of water bottles aren’t recycled.

Unfortunately, a staggering amount of water bottles don’t get recycled. According to the latest available data, only one in five water bottles are actually recycled. This means that 80% of all water bottles get thrown away.

The bottled water industry generates a jaw-dropping amount of waste.

Those four out of five bottles that don’t get recycled contribute to a nearly impossible amount of garbage. Each year, the bottled water industry generates about 3 billion pounds of waste, all of which goes into landfills where it will stay for millennia.

Well water filtration systems are one of the most important investments homeowners can make not only for themselves, but for the planet. If you have any questions about how these water purification systems help make homes more sustainable, feel free to share in the comments.
